Let’s get started…

Thanks for joining me!

I turned 50 a few months ago and decided that I wanted to do something that would push me to my limits physically – possibly mentally too! Something that I’m not 100% sure I can actually do but will give it my best shot.

That ‘something’ is the Tour du Mont Blanc Cyclo in July 2019 – a sportive of 330km (over 200 miles) and more than 8000m climbing taking riders in a big loop around Mont Blanc and to be completed within about 20 hours. It includes some pretty meaty climbs such as the Col du Grand Saint Bernard (2469m), the (misleadingly named) Col du Petit Saint Bernard (2193m) and Cormet de Roselend (1967m) plus 5 others. So, a ‘proper day out’.

Around 500 riders took part in 2018 of whom 16 were women and 4 were women over 50. Maybe there just aren’t that many women crazy enough to do these kinds of challenges!

As this is going to be a once in a lifetime challenge, I thought I would jot down my thoughts on the journey to get there from the perspective of a peri-menopausal 50 year old woman, for me to look back on in years to come. So here goes…
